Mike Bunn's Assault on Fort Blakeley

 Mike Bunn is the special guest speaker. Mr. Bunn is the Manager of Fort Blakely , located in the Mobile area. Mike brings a fascinating presentation on Alabama’s biggest Civil War battle and importantly talks about the role of the U.S.C.T. (US Colored Troops) in this battle. 

Dr. Lesley Gordon's Dread Danger (Coming Jul 2026)

 North Alabama Civil War Roundtable presents their  November 2025 program, where Dr. Lesley J. Gordon, Charles G. Summersell Chair of Southern History at the University of Alabama discusses her recent book Dread Danger: Cowardice and Combat in the American Civil War.  The video  examines the important Victorian ideas of bravery and cowardice during the American Civil War by focusing on how these traits were exemplified by two regiments, the 2nd Texas Infantry, CS and the 11th New York Infantry, US,  the first Zouave Fire Brigade.

Dean Galbreath's "The Sergeant: The Incredible Life of Nicholas Said... Hero of the Union Army

 
Said (ca. 1836-1882) was born in what is now Northern Nigeria and sold into slavery by the Muslim Ottoman Turks before becoming the servant of a Russian prince and crossing paths with Tsar Nicholas I. After extensive travels in Africa, Europe, the Near East and the Caribbean, Said eventually emigrated to the US as a Free Person of Color, and joined the Union Army. After the war he settled in St. Stephens, Alabama, where he became a teacher, wrote his memoirs and assisted other Alabama freedmen. 

Rev. Dr. David Gregg's "Hood in Florence"

 North Alabama Civil War Roundtable at our January 2025 program! Rev. Dr. David Gregg will present a program titled "Hood's Twenty-Three Days at the Muscle Shoals," which will examine Confederate Major-General John Bell Hood's 23 days in the Shoals Area during his momentous fall, 1864 campaign.
